Threading holes with a thread forming tap is a cold forming process accomplished without cutting. Threads produced by this tap are stronger than conventional cut threads because of the swaging and work hardening effect. There are no chips and no cutting edges to become dull and break down, therefore tap breakage is minimized. Chipless tapping also eliminates the sometimes costly chip removal from the threaded work.
